Radford University and Dolly Parton celebrates Class of 2026 at Spring Commencement
Radford, VA (05/02/2026) — Radford University celebrated its Class of 2026 during Spring Commencement ceremonies held May 1-2, highlighted by an inspiring address from alumnus Eugene Naughton '89, president of The Dollywood Company.
A total of 1,427 students participated in this spring's ceremonies. Degrees awarded included 1,050 bachelor's degrees, 327 master's degrees and 43 doctoral degrees, along with a small number of certificates.
During the ceremonies, Naughton surprised graduates with a special video message from Dolly Parton, created specifically to congratulate Radford's graduates. He also announced that each graduate in attendance would receive two complimentary tickets to Dollywood, drawing an enthusiastic response from the crowd.
"As you pack up your belongings and leave Radford University, please remember this," Naughton said. "Adventure isn't a destination, it's a mindset. It means waking up every morning, ready to learn something new, to laugh and to lead others. It is, as Dolly says, figuring out who you are and doing it on purpose."
The celebration followed Friday evening's Graduate Hooding Ceremony, where master's and doctoral candidates were recognized for their academic achievements.
Members of the Class of 2026 represent 11 states (including Virginia and Washington, D.C.) and 6 countries, reflecting the university's broad geographic reach. In Virginia, graduates come from all corners of the Commonwealth.
Graduates range in age from 19 to 71, highlighting the diverse experiences and paths that define Radford University's student body.

Additional Eugene Naughton quotes:
- "Radford helped shape my path, and I know it can help shape yours as powerfully. Each of you has your own version of that story, waiting for you to unfold."
- "Radford encourages innovation and fearless exploration, values that echo loudly in every corner of Dollywood, too. Whether you're inventing new ways to learn, to serve or to create, you're living proof that adventure belongs to the bold."
- "Adventure requires you to take risks, to try new things and not be afraid to fail. As Dolly says, 'if you want that rainbow, you got to be able to put up with the rain.'"
