MEDIA ADVISORY: Radford University to host Scripps Regional Spelling Bee
Radford, VA (03/27/2026) — Radford University will host its annual Scripps Regional Spelling Bee, welcoming top young spellers from across the region to compete for a spot in the national spotlight.
As a Regional Partner of the Scripps National Spelling Bee, Radford University supports K-8 students from 26 school divisions and private schools, representing 129 individual schools. Students advance through classroom, school and division-level bees to earn a place in the regional competition.
The event highlights academic excellence, lifelong learning, and community engagement, while also providing Radford University students with hands-on experiential learning opportunities. The regional champion will advance to the national competition.
WHEN: Saturday, March 28 10 a.m. - approximately 12:00-12:30 p.m.

The regional word list is used nationwide, and Scripps requests that no spelling words be aired until the conclusion of regional competitions on April 3.
