MEDIA ADVISORY: Radford University to host Scripps Regional Spelling Bee

Radford, VA (03/27/2026) — Radford University will host its annual Scripps Regional Spelling Bee, welcoming top young spellers from across the region to compete for a spot in the national spotlight.

As a Regional Partner of the Scripps National Spelling Bee, Radford University supports K-8 students from 26 school divisions and private schools, representing 129 individual schools. Students advance through classroom, school and division-level bees to earn a place in the regional competition.

The event highlights academic excellence, lifelong learning, and community engagement, while also providing Radford University students with hands-on experiential learning opportunities. The regional champion will advance to the national competition.

WHEN: Saturday, March 28 10 a.m. - approximately 12:00-12:30 p.m.

WHERE: Radford University, Preston Hall, Bondurant Auditorium, Radford, Virginia

IMPORTANT MEDIA NOTE: Due to national competition guidelines from the Scripps National Spelling Bee, media outlets may not record audio of students spelling official competition words or print official competition words. The regional word list is used nationwide, and Scripps requests that no spelling words be aired until the conclusion of regional competitions on April 3.
