MEDIA ADVISORY: Radford University to Host First-Ever First Year Float on the New River This Sunday

Radford, VA (08/26/2022) — Who and What: New Highlanders will meet Sunday to begin a new tradition. New students - both freshman and transfer students - will celebrate their first year at Radford with a mile-long float down the New River. The event begins and ends in parking lot Z on the Radford University campus.

The first 1,000 students who complete the float will receive a Radford University T-shirt. All will be treated to snacks, games and music with a DJ at the end of the float.

The offices of Student Recreation and Wellness, Student Involvement, Center for Diversity and Inclusion, and Housing and Residential Life are hosting the event as part of Welcome Weeks this fall and providing all safety equipment and tubes.

When: Sunday, Aug. 28, 1-5:30 p.m.

Where: Parking Lot Z on the Radford University Campus, 801 E. Main St., Radford, Virginia

(Lot Z is near the Dedmon Center on the north side of Main Street and near the New River.)
