RUC offers faculty, staff and student REVIVE! Naloxone Training
Radford, VA (04/18/2023) — The RUC Department of Public Health and Healthcare Leadership is providing REVIVE! naloxone training on Thursday, April 20, from 5-7 p.m. in Room 617 at RUC in Roanoke, 101 Elm Avenue.
Since 2013, fatal drug overdose has been the leading method of unnatural death in Virginia, surpassing all other forms of unnatural death including homicide, suicide, motor vehicles accidents, and undetermined deaths. Opioids have been the driving force behind the large increases in fatal overdoses since 2013.
REVIVE! provides training on how to recognize and respond to an opioid overdose emergency using naloxone. If you know how to respond to an opioid overdose, you can save someone's life.
"As staff and faculty, we have the role to teach, but we also must continue to learn. This is a community problem that needs a community solution; we all have to get involved to the best of our ability," said Kim Baskette, PhD, CHES, Assistant Professor, Public Health and Health Sciences, Dept. of Public Health & Healthcare Leadership, Waldron College of Health & Human Services, Radford University Carilion.
This event, facilitated by Roanoke & Alleghany Health Districts staff, is open to all RUC students, faculty and staff, and their families. All participants will go home with their free REVIVE! kit with naloxone to add to their first aid kit.
Registration is limited to 50 participants for this event.
