Earth Day
Earth Day 2026 is Wednesday, April 22, and Radford University has faculty experts available to speak about topics related to the global environmental movement that began more than a half century ago.
Professor of English Rick Van Noy is the author of several books related to climate change, including Sudden Spring: Stories of Adaptation in a Climate-Changed South. Van Noy is available to discuss the beginnings of Earth Day and how an iconic photo taken on the 1968 Apollo 8 mission sparked a shift in attitudes toward preserving the planet.
Van Noy, the author of A Natural Sense of Wonder: Connecting Kids with Nature Through the Seasons, is also available to discuss the value of urging children to put aside technology, at least for a few hours, in favor of exploring the natural world.
Van Noy's expertise includes climate change, environmental writing and issues, nature and children, natural history, American literature and rivers.
